Friend and fellow birder, Clancey Deel, came up to our place on Compton
Mountain yesterday to join me in watching the fall migration, and boy did we
have a good birding day.
We had a total of 49 species, if you include the two Empids we saw. Just as
Clancey arrived the birds came pouring into the backyard, so many we
couldn't get binoculars on some of them before they moved on. The highlight
of the morning was a pair of Black-throated Blue Warblers that came down to
feed on our Beauty Berries near our yard stream and gave us some good photo
opportunities.
I won't include the regulars that were in the yard, but here is a list of
the migrants that passed through.
1 Blue-winged Warbler, 1 Ovenbird, 1 Black-and-white Warbler, 2 Tennessee
Warblers, 3 Hooded Warblers, 3 American Redstarts, 1 Northern Parula, 2
Magnolia Warblers, 5 beautiful Blackburnian Warblers, 3 Chestnut-sided
Warblers, 2 Black-throated Blue Warblers, 3 Yellow-throated Warblers, 2
Black-throated Green Warblers,5 Scarlet Tanagers, 3 Indigo Buntings, 1
Eastern Wood Pewee, 1 Eastern Kingbird, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 1 Blue-headed
Vireo, 6 Red-eyed Vireos, 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 1 Gray Catbird, 3 Brown
Thrashers, 3 American Robins, 3 Chipping Sparrows, 2 Field Sparrows and 1
Baltimore Oriole.
