A great day for hawkwatching. We had 10 migrating raptor species: American
Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, Merlin, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Coopers Hawk, Northern
Harrier, Osprey
Broad-winged Hawk, Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle plus the resident Red-tailed
Hawk. We also topped 7,000 Broadwinged Hawks for the season. Today we had our
first Golden Eagle, a juvenile that was close in, below eye level on the North
side of the ridge. We also had 4 Peregrine Falcons, all close and good looks.
Hawkwatchers today included: Gary Cooper, Mike Skinner, Phil Shelton, Kristine
Hoffman, and George Larkin. I will probably be back at the tower one more day,
probably Tuesday.
