Total observation time: 9.5 hours

Official Counter:        Ron Harrington

Observers:        Jennifer Meade, Marian Finucane, Michelle Sparks

Visitors:
Students from the Twin Springs HS Environmental Science Class: Morgan
Begley, Julio Birchfield, Katlin Castle, Savannah Collins, James Craig,
Amica Dooley, Jacob Dooley, Will Farmer, Gracie Gibson, Reese Gillenwater,
Ryleigh Gillenwater, Ryan Horne, Kaylee Keith, Liliana Medina, Jon Salyer,
Kaylee Apel, Hunter Dean, Erika Hensley, Madison Keith, Haley Robertson,
and Dylan Sanders. Teacher April Addington and Bus Driver Mark Kinkead.

Late in the day April Addington returned with a Scout group and their
familes.

Weather:
Early morning fog and cloud cover gave way to mostly sunny skies by 10:30,
clear skies with only a few vapor trails and wispy clouds to serve as a
backdrop starting during the 11:00 hour. Temperatures ranged from the low
sixties to a high of 70 by 12:00 hour. Fog limited visibility to mile on
the East side to less than a 100 yards otherwise. The wind was from the
North/Northwest at speeds of approximately 8-15 MPH until late in the day
when it became relatively calm.

Raptor Observations:
The first raptor was a Northern Harrier that swooped by low at 9:57.
Crossed through a gap from the East side to the Northwest side at about eye
level. The first Broad-winged hawks started moving through in the 10:00
hour and by 11:00 hour were flying relatively high at the limit of unaided
vision. They were on both sides of the ridge. All three American Bald
Eagles were adults, the the students from Twin Springs HS had good views!

Non-raptor Observations:
Other birds noted were Blue Jays, Hairy WP, Yellow-shafted Flicker, Turkey
and Black Vultures, Chimney Swifts, Dark-eyed Juncos, and Ravens.

Predictions:
The peak of the Broad-winged migration has passed but small groups, along
with other raptor species, may still be passing the tower. Should continue
to have good flying weather.
