Observation end   time: 17:00:00
Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter:        Ron Harrington

Observers:        Jill Harrington Scott, Kim Blaine, Larry McDaniel,
                  Sam Evans

Visitors:
Tom Loughlin brought his Vertebrate Zoology class from East Tennessee State
University:
Rachel Herrmann, Ashley Harrison, Devon Hankey, Adam Baird, Torey Broyles,
Carolina Gonzalez, Morgan Tolliver, Monica Greene, Mason Carlson, Bryce,
Burgess, Ryan Lewis, Nicholas Britt, Anna Grizzard, Devan Lewis, Taylor
Burgan, Baylea Davenport, and Zac Mitchell (who served as an observer.

Others: Ruth, Lucas, and Philip Turner from Johnson City, TN. Ruth and
Lucas helped with counting hawks and did a great job!

Weather:
The weather was cooperative for a good day of hawk counting. Temperatures
ranged from a low of 55 to a high of 77. Visibility was 10 miles with some
light haze. We started off with mostly cloudy skies then varied from partly
to mostly cloudy until the 1300 hour when it began clearing and was mostly
clear by 1500 hours. The wind was fairly steady out of the Southeast with
estimated speeds of 8-12 MPH then slacking off late in the day.

Raptor Observations:
The first Broad-winged hawk came by at 8:17, then we had a lull until the
next hour, when we had 67. The biggest number, 625, came by during the
10:00 hour in a steady stream on the Southeast side, most visible by
unaided vision. Here are the other numbers:
1100:  2
1200: 39
1300: 220
1400: 90,
1500: 100
1600: 41

The four American Bald Eagles, especially the two adults, put on a good
show, flying by low enough for a good look by all.

Non-raptor Observations:
The usual array of Black and Turkey vultures, and couple of Ravens were
around. We heard or saw Juncos, Blue Jays, Downy and Hairy WP, Crows,
Chimney Swifts, and a Scarlet Tanager. We also spotted one Red-tailed hawk,
but it did not appear to be migrating.

Predictions:
Should be another good day for hawks moving through in their race against
the sun. The Bristol Bird Club will be there.
