For those of you who haven't seen them already here are some photos of the very
unusual Christmas visitor to the Breaks, the Long-billed Curlew. Dave Raines
and I got to within 50 or 60 feet of the bird when I was photographing it on
December 24.

Thanks to Ed Bailey, Dave's neighbor, for alerting Dave to it, and to Dave for
correctly identifying the bird and getting the word out to the rest of us. I
have already had some e-mails from birders farther east in Virginia who want to
come and see the bird.
Jerry Thornhill, I'm afraid your two Pine Siskins won't quite stand up against
the Long-billed Curlew for the Birder of the Month award :)
