Congratulations Dave on finding the Clay-colored Sparrow. Like you I examine 
each flock of Chippers to see if a Clay-colored might be among them, but so far 
I haven't found one. I will keep looking though.

  After 5:00pm @ our family cemetary I found a late Palm Warbler, then @ home 
in a weedy fence row I was surprised to find a female Nashville Warbler. Also, 
in a small flock of Chipping Sparrows, a lone Clay-colored Sparrow showed up. 
I've been checking flocks of Chipping Sparrows for this possibility for years 
with no results, but finally... I guess perseverance pays off! Ha!
