This evening 13 members of the Buchanan County Bird Club came together at
Keen Mountain Park for their annual picnic and birding event. It was a
beautiful and comfortable evening to be with fellow birders. Twenty-eight
species were counted for the evening. Twenty-eight species were counted for
the evening. On a disappointing note the birders watched as a
Black-and-white Warbler fed a juvenile Brown-headed Cowbird. Obviously the
warbler's nest had been parasitized by the cowbird's parent, meaning that a
whole clutch of Black-and-white Warblers probably did not survive.
It was great to have Ed and Michelle Talbott birding with us again. We hope
for many more shared events in the future. Those in attendance were Clancey
and Pat Deel, Roger and Lynda Mayhorn, Daryl, Angie, Alyssa and Emma Owens,
David Raines, Ed II and Mary Talbott and Ed III and Michelle Talbott.
