Hi All, Mark Mullins, who lives on Claytor Lake, sent me this photo of a bird he thought was a Great White Heron, and he was right. Great White Herons are a white form of the Great Blue Heron. They are normally seen only in the Florida Keys, but occasionally are found in other parts of the country. The key field marks on this bird are the large, thick bill, much thicker than that of a Great Egret, the dark upper bill and the gray legs, as compared to the black legs of the Great Egret. Congratulations Mark, a great find! Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
