Our weekend storm with 2 1/2 - 3 inches of rain, turning to snow produced
some good birds today. Here's what we saw this afternoon in Summers County:
Bluestone Dam -
80 common loons
45 double-crested cormorants
50 red-breasted mergansers
1 pied-billed grebe
8 mallards
2 Canada geese
4 blue-winged teal
1 belted kingfisher
2 great blue herons
1 bald eagle
2 herring gulls
10 ring-billed gulls
2 Bonaparte's gulls
5 Forster's terns
100's tree swallows
dozens barn swallows
1 rough-winged swallow
2 yellow-rumped warblers
Mountain Valley Lake, Jumping Branch
1 horned grebe
4 pied-billed grebes
30 double-crested cormorants
6 common loons
3 American black ducks
4 lesser scaups
8 buffleheads
2 red-breasted mergansers
4 ring-necked ducks
1 belted kingfisher
at least 3, maybe 4 ospreys
1 female purple finch at our feeder
