I contacted Roger to confirm the ID I made at the time. Roger agrees that they are Great Egrets. Ponds at Saltville are a good place to see ducks and, in the case, Egrets. While walking along the pond, on the well field section, I noticed a white bird in the marsh area approximately 1/4 mile away. As I walked closer another white bird came up out of the high grass in the marsh and flew across the road and landed on the opposite side of the pond to my right. The bird I was observing remained in the grass, so I walked past the pond and then back to the area where the bird was feeding. I am attaching a couple of shots I made and I think it's a Great Egret. There were two Egrets on this particular pond. I got with in 10 to 15 yards when I snapped the shot. Ed 2
