Hi All, A FOS (first of the season) Chipping Sparrow was hopping around the yard this morning. It was feeding with 5 Fox Sparrows, a couple of Song Sparrows and some Cardinals. Ocasionally we have an overwintering Chipper, but not this year. Later an Eastern Towhee was seen feeding at the edge of the yard. Under normal circumstances these birds are here year round, but due to last year's food killing April Freeze and last summer's extreme drought, the Towhees left the area during the fall. This one is the first one that has returned. This brightly colored male is a welcome sight. A Cooper's Hawk made its daily run on the birds at the feeders earlier today, but didn't make contact. It soon left for better hunting grounds. Last night the two Barred Owls were back in the yard. One was down on the ground hunting nightcrawlers again. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
