Chuck and I have been monitoring the Bluebird boxes at Keen Mountain
(Early White Trail) this summer for the Buchanan/Russell County Bird Club.
This afternoon, a friend and employee of the Transfer station stopped by to
let us know that several of the Bluebird boxes had been vandalized. I drove
up to the Bluebird trail to check it out and out of 10 boxes, 7 boxes were
vandalized. We believe this happened overnight or over the weekend.
Thankfully, all the young Bluebirds had fledged and no boxes had eggs in
them, due to being late in the nesting season. It's very frustrating to
know how much work was put into building the boxes and placing the boxes
and then have someone destroy them like this.
