Hi All, Since 2006, when bird song expert Don Kroodsma was the guest speaker for the Buchanan County Bird Club's hosting of the VSO (Virginia Society of Ornithology) annual meeting in the Breaks Park, he has kept in touch occasionally by email. Well, yesterday I received an email from him saying that he wants to return to Buchanan County this spring to do some more recording of bird songs. He asked if I could pick out some good spots for him with good birds, where he could record in relative quiet without too much interference from noise from machines, etc. When he was here in 2006 he recorded several birds here on Compton Mountain and included a chapter about them in his latest book, BirdSong by the Seasons. I replied to his email and gave him a description of some good birding areas and told him of some of the species he could expect to find there. He sent me a quick reply saying that after reading my email he was, as he put it, "salivating in the cold north country" (he lives in Massachusetts) and that he can't wait to come to bird in Buchanan County once again. So, it is with excitement that we look forward to having Mr. Kroodsma join us sometime this spring to do some birding and hopefully to hear about some of the great experiences he has had and about some of the great insights he has gained from studying bird songs.
