The torrential rains originating from the hurricane passing the Bahamas on Oct.
3 caused the creek to rise above the small bridge on State Shed Lane in
Baywood/Galax, VA, that leads to our farm house, If you are on the far side of
the bridge returning from town this poses a problem. Do you risk crossing the
bridge against all advice from experts, or possibly spend several hours or even
all night waiting for the waters to recede?

While a friend Edwina Driggers watched and took these photos, I drove my trusty
Ford F150 across the flood waters and safely reached the other side. I was able
to see the downstream side of the tiny home made bridge so I felt safe in
making this crossing. I would not recommend doing this in a Prius or other
vehicle that is low to the ground and light in weight.
