That hawk should have read "Red-shouldered Hawk", not a Red-tailed. We get very few Red-tails here on the mountain. They were soon followed by a Yellow-throated Warbler. Since both species nest here I can't say positively that they are migrants passing through, but since I haven't seen any Black-throated Greens here since back in the spring, it's a good bet that they are. A short time later seven Wild Turkeys came through the yard, pausing momentarily at the blueberry bushes. I also had two Brown Thrashers at the suet feeder, and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo calling from down in the woods. Also heard or seen today was a Hooded Warbler (probably a resident), an Indigo Bunting in the yard stream, Eastern Towhees at the feeder, several Eastern Bluebirds around the yard, and a Red-tailed Hawk calling as it circled overhead. We also have several hummingbirds feeding on the Jewel Weed at the edge of the woods Attached is a photo of one of the Black-throated Greens, and a shot of three of the seven turkeys.
