[bcbirdclub] Cardinals Greene County but no Snow yet

Roger had this beautiful cardinal amidst beautiful snow.
 
My story the other side of beautiful.
 
I spotted the red-bellied and the downy both at my suet trying to share.
Cute, so I grabbed my camera and out the door.
 
In the distance it appeared two cardinals were mating, the female being somewhat hidden in the grassy area. 
Oblivious, I just starting taking continuous photos.  It became evident that they were both red-headed males,
so I now wondered if it was a male protecting its young.  He hovered close-by then atop the other, possibly
from the others - crows, doves, etc.  Turned ugly quickly as I realized that he was attacking and mutilating
the poor guy - not protecting, not mating, but gouging his eye and pulling out feathers.  Such a pretty bully bird.
 
I did have to interfere with nature but he was so brave he waited until I got right on him to move slowly to the bush.
Made sure the injured one hopped into my garden weeds before heading back in.  Don't know if he survived.
 
Reminded me of an old saying I once heard that stuck in my head.
  "Fidelity Bank and Trust is a tough creditor - you make a deposit somewhere else, and they close your account"
 
Think I will just save Roger's beauty in my memory bank.

Subject: [bcbirdclub] Red-wings and Cardinal

Three days ago I had 1 Red-winged Blackbird at my feeder. The next day I had 2. This morning I had 4. This evening there were 18.
 
The female Hairy Woodpecker, Two Red-bellied Woodpeckers and 2 Downys were feeding on the suet today.
 
Here is one of the many cardinals that were at the feeder during the snow on Monday.
