[bcbirdclub] Busy Birding Morning on Compton Mt

There was a lot of bird action this morning around our yard stream, the
feeders and the fruiting shrubs and plants. First there were 5
White-throated Sparrows under the sunflower seed feeder. Within a few
minutes our First of the Season Fox Sparrow had joined them. Later our First
of the Season Dark-eyed Junco came in. The next unexpected visitor was a
Ruby-crowned Kinglet flitting about in the tops of the dead Goldenrod
plants.  Both Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches were in the yard.
The Red-breasted came down to the stream to bathe, then spent several
minutes preening and drying off in the Birch tree over the pond.

It is surprising to ever see flycatchers coming down to sit in a stream, but
two Eastern Phoebes came into the yard, and one dropped into the yard stream
and sat there for several seconds. Moments later 24 Robins descended en
masse on the Hawthorn Tree and began to gobble down Hawthorn berries. Two
Cedar Waxwings joined them. A male Purple Finch came to the seed feeder, and
4 Chipping Sparrows hopped around the yard.

It wasn't long before 2 Common Grackles fed under the seed feeder, and
Red-bellied, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers came to the suet feeder.

The only raptors of the day were a Red-tailed Hawk that made a low flyover
and a Turkey Vulture circling overhead.
