Hi All, Saturday, November 3rd, thirteen members of our Buchanan County Bird Club held its annual Sparrow Day. The group once again gathered at the beautiful farm of Billy-Ray and Shirley Justus of Guesses Fork in the northern part of Buchanan County. Thirty-seven species were recorded for the day. The numbers of individual birds and species were down this year, probably due in part to the hard freeze of April, that killed off many food bearing plants, and to the drought conditions that have persisted in the area for the past several months. In spite of that the group had a great day with beautiful weather, some great food and good conversations with birding friends. Sparrow species found were Savannah, Song, White-throated, White-crowned, Swamp, Fox, Eastern Towhee and DE Junco. The complete list of the day's birds follows.
