Ed, Michelle and others, Great photos but that's no surprise. It sounds like you guys had a great day for hiking and birding. Glad the rain held off. It's good you and Michelle were there to show the others your favorite spots. Don and Dawn Carrier came up on Sunday, the 25th and the four of us did some birding on Harry's Branch and the Mary Kelly Road. We got 41 species including 6 Cerulean Warblers, 3 American Redstarts, a couple of Black-and-white Warblers, a Black-throated Green, 1 male Blue-winged Warbler, 4 Hooded Warblers, 2 Parulas, 6 Ovenbirds, a Worm-eating Warbler, 5 Acadian Flycatchers, a Great Crested Flycatcher, a Blue-headed Vireo singing while on the nest, 1 Orchard Oriole, and 2 Scarlet Tanagers. On Thursday the 29th Travis Ratliff, a nice guy and a promising beginning birder and I did a 4 mile hike on the strip site here on Compton Mt. We got 34 species with great looks at a KY Warbler, Hooded Warblers 13 in all, and 12 beautiful male Indigo Buntings. We also saw Redstarts, Black-and-whites, a Black-throated Green, a fledgling Eastern Towhee, Great Crested Flycatcher, Scarlet Tanagers, White-eyed Vireo, Wood Thrushes, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 5 Yellow-breasted Chats and a Red-shouldered Hawk.
