Warblers were rather scarce today here on the mountain, at least during the time I was watching. I did see 3 Tennessee Warblers. One especially interesting bird was my FOS Philadelphia Vireo. It searched the birch tree over the pond for insects. I usually get a few of that species each fall. I am still seeing some Ruby-throats chasing each other away from Jewel Weed plants when there is a mountainside of them to feed from. A Yellow-throated Vireo was scolding from the Hemlock tree this morning, and a male Scarlet Tanager and a Red-eyed Vireo were feeding on Virginia Creeper berries near the top of a walnut tree.. I heard the peent of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak in one of the walnut trees in the backyard. Another female Baltimore Oriole (had one yesterday) perched for a bit in the top of a white pine. Later 3 Indigo Buntings in their nondescript brown winter plumage came to bathe in the yard stream. Roger Mayhorn Compton Mt
