The ID BCTESTER worked. I did have to run the activation cd again before it would let me download books on the BC.
I haven't tried to load any books that have more then one cd yet.

Login failed! Your Member ID number was not found; please try again.
I have tried with the letter in my ID capitalized and not. I have even tried using a different computer.

Hi everyone,

I'm forwarding a message from one of the beta testers who is having a problem with the RFB&D installation. I'm hoping that we can help each other with the instructions here. Here's what Tommy has to say:

Hi Katie,

Well I don't know if I'm just dense or what but I can't figure this out. When I run setuak.exe I get the dialog box withe the set key button. I hit enter on this and I am prompted for a name and key. I enter the same name and password I use to log onto the RFBD page to order books. This is the only kind of code I have. I also Tried using my member number and I always get a message telling me that the user name is invalid.

I'm not fussing at you guys but RFB&D is making this extremely difficult. Their Non Disclosure form says the beta will end on January 6 and if they are closed for the entire time of the beta then how are we supposed to resolve problems. Sorry if I sound grumpy but this is very frustrating.

Tommy

Unfortunately, the activation process is not as intuitive as we'd like. It's very important to follow the instructions on the beta web page in the section called Activating Your BookCourier for RFB&D Files. The Name and Key values that you need to enter into the SetUAK.exe application must come from RFB&D's web site. You have to log into a special part of their web site and then wait for them to give you the values you need. I've copied the instructions from the web page and added them to the end of this email. Please make sure that you perform every step as outlined. If you continue to have installation problems, then we can figure out whether the problem is with my instructions or with the various codes and keys that RFB&D requires.

Regarding Tommy's other concern -- the end date for the beta on January 6, I agree that the timing doesn't make much sense considering that RFB&D is unavailable until January 3. I'm sure we can extend the beta cycle so that all the testers will have an opportunity to complete the testing and provide us with meaningful feedback.

Thanks for your patience.
Katie

Activating Your BookCourier for RFB&D Files

1. Make sure your BookCourier is connected to your PC.
2. Insert the BookCourier Activation CD into your PC. Run the SetUAK.exe on the CD. A dialog box called Registration Required will appear.
3. Click the Enter Key button. A new dialog will appear that requests your name and a key. This dialog also lists an eight digit Hardware Fingerprint that you will need to use later. (Do not attempt to fill out this form until you have visited the RFB&D web site as outlined in the following steps.)
4. Click the Visit Website button to access RFB&D's Digital Playback Software Registration page.
5. On the registration page, enter your RFB&D Member ID and click the Logon button. A second registration page will appear.
6. Follow the instructions on the second registration page. In step 1, click the Register button associated with the BookCourier product. In step 2, enter the Hardware Fingerprint number that appears on the Enter Key dialog (described above). In step 3, click the Register button. A third registration page will appear.
7. Copy and paste the Name and Key values from the third registration page into the corresponding fields on the Enter Key dialog box. Click OK.
8. If the process is successful, a Key Valid message will appear. Click the OK button to continue. A dialog box called Set UAK will appear.
9. The Set UAK dialog box will display the serial number of your BookCourier. Click the SetUAK button to activate your BookCourier. If the process is successful, a message will appear telling you so. Click the OK button. Then click the Exit button on the SetUAK dialog.

Now you're ready to start transferring AudioPlus books to your BookCourier. The Transfer Tool treats AudioPlus files like other DAISY files except that the Transfer Tool will prompt you for your RFB&D validation code before the transfer begins.

Hi Tommy,

Glad you got the installation CD. I believe that the RFB&D office is closed until January 3. However, it's possible that you are already set up on their web site for the installation even though they hadn't received the non-disclosure forms. If you have some AudioPlus titles at home, you might just try to do the installation. If it works, there's no reason you can't start listening to the titles you already have. Let me know how it goes. Also, you can send emails like this last one to the list in the future (bc-rfbd-beta@xxxxxxxxxxxxx).

Thanks,
Katie

Hi Katie,

Just thought I'd let you know that I got the disk. I sent the non disclosure form to RFB&D but haven't heard anything from them. I just left Stephanie a voicemail message, so hopefully I'll hear something soon.
