a 10KW system but i have to have a total install/equipment cost under
$3/Watt. So i'm basically shopping contractors right now. Every bid i've
got from solar companies are just middle-men with big margins ($4.80-$3.47
per watt). And I just can't bring myself to pay for middle-men pricing. I'm
80% on the DIY bandwagon with having an electrician do the hookups.

Jeremy, that's rad! You can give them my info, or I'll look them up and
have you as my reference. Though, like i said, leaning strongly to a
DYI/contractor solution.

I don't see any game changing panel tech coming out other than gradual
efficiency increase. Though, cheaper, yeah. And i think mostly on the
install pieces, it's a money grab atm, I believe. Battery tech simply just
isn't there yet.

Rocky Power does net metering now. You get credits for unused power sent
back to the grid and it resets once a year. They don't pay you for feeding
them and charge you $9 a month for connection fees. Sucks, but the math
still works out if you plan the size of the system right with your usage.

I just think in the next 5-10 years they'll have things way more efficient
and cheaper. Plus, right now rocky mountain power reimburses you 1:1 but
what happens if they stop that and you only get 2/3 or so after that?  Then
it'll take much longer to pay off. The efficiency degrades to on the
current panels.

If you want batteries that'll cost you thousands more too.

I'd like to do it at some point in the fufure, just not now.

That is one of my requirements.

Are they VR compatible panels?

Hey, has anyone in this group done solar for their homes? I'm getting
close to making a decision after having 5 or so bids and looking at DIY..
I was just curious to see what this group thought.
