Yeah, I paid 259 for my 970 when all others were about $300 plus I got Seige
free. Since it was lower than the others, I feel like it was actually free so I
rationalized it was closer to $200.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Agreed. That is almost exactly my process for getting a new card. I do work in
some additional flexible money under the "I like cool stuff and this is my
hobby" factor.

Like I said last night I like to shoot for the $200 mark, at that price you get
more life out of your purchase as it doesn't have two feet out the door and
don't feel ripped off when the new hotness comes out the month after you buy
the $500 card causing it's price to drop.
I also like to check Tom's Hierarchy chart to see how my current card is
compared to the new card and see if an upgrade is worth it per their
recommendations. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html
"I don’t recommend upgrading your graphics card unless the replacement card is
at least three tiers higher. Otherwise, the upgrade is somewhat parallel, and
you may not even notice a worthwhile difference."
Using Tom's chart if I was going to upgrade my current card (GTX 970) I would
want at least a (GTX 1070) and the cheapest one on PCpartPicker is $399.99
which puts it outside of my Sweetspot.

I haven't read the techreport for some time but every quarter or so they
'build' systems at different price points with explenations backing up their
choices and their suggestions have been solid in the past.

The 1060 is a great card, right now. I say go for it. Always get the best
single card you can afford before thinking SLI.
I'm hoping next year we see some game-changing improvements from one or both of
the GPU makers, but it'll all probably remain the standard ~20% improvement per
generation.

Yeah as long as it can get above 60 FPS on BF1 at 1080p on high settings that
would be good enough. I also like to hold on to my graphics cards for as long
as possible. I still have my 560TI which was below the minimum requirements for
BF4.

and won't need to upgrade as often. The 1060 should be great at that price for
a while, but they often come out with a lower end TI version a little later for
around $200.

So I need to update my graphics card soon, probably around when bf1 comes out,
maybe around Thanksgiving with the deals that will be available then. So I
normally spend $150 on a graphic card, but I believe the 1060 is $200, so I may
be willing to go to $200. What should I get?
