Hi all,
The Urban School of San Francisco, an independent high school in the
Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, is looking for an assistant librarian for the
fall and winter terms. The part time temporary librarian is responsible for
supporting the library program. Primary responsibilities include overseeing
the library and its collection and working with students to ensure they
acquire researching skills. The Assistant Librarian reports directly to the
Librarian.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Information specialist
Provides instruction for students in information literacy skills.
Provides reference services to students, faculty, and staff.
Development and management of resources and facility
Maintains the library catalog, library website, and library research guides.
Assists in managing the entire collection: acquisition, cataloging,
weeding, and circulation of all materials.
Directs parent volunteers whose work supports the library program.
Manages magazine subscriptions and routing.
Participates in the activities of the broader Urban School community, which
may include advising the student book club and Library Leaders group.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or comparable experience
Experience working with and enjoyment of high school students
Fluency in using and teaching information literacy skills
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
The time commitment for the lab work is roughly 2 days/week in the fall and
1 day/week in the winter. Pay is DOE.
The term of employment will be for two terms of the academic year, from
September 2015 through early March 2016.
