[baisl] library reading corner ideas

Hi all,
I have attached a picture of my current library reading corner. It is cute, but
has some definite down sides. The students at PBS are preschool-5th but the
area is too small for classes of 20 children once they reach 3rd grade.
Children sitting on the benches slump back against uncomfortable windowsills.
Children sitting on the soft green floor lean into the knees of children on the
benches and they spend lots of time wiggling and crashing into each other. The
soft floor is not conducive to sitting up straight “criss-cross applesauce”
because the kids tip around. The general floor space is tight. It works well
for a small group (during recess for example) but not well for a class.
I am looking for something else or another way to arrange the space and I can
get money for new furniture. I am inclined to put a chair for the
librarian/teacher in the back corner so children have more room to spread out.
Do you have ideas for me? I saw some button shaped stools that would define
each child’s space and could be stacked between classes, but they cost almost
$400 per seat. I would love any and all thoughts.
