Copyright is such a gray area. Basically I recommend the same thing you did
below. As for clips, following the same rule (10%) is good. The difficulty is
this “fair use” rule is for content that is educationally related. I am not
sure a sports highlight is truly in that category.

If posting to a non-secure site (e.g. YouTube), I would stay away from using a
movie clip. But, if posting to a secure site (e.g. Vimeo with a password,
school website with login required, etc.), then a clip should work fine.

Subject: [baisl] copyright question

Hi All,
I am hoping for your collective wisdom in regards to a copyright question. A
coach would like to post a video highlighting this year's season to our
school's website. He has compiled video clips of his season set to music and
audio. I have directed him to copyright friendly music and also recommended
that if he chooses to use copyrighted music, he follow the 10% or 30 second max
guideline. He would also like to use an audio clip from one of the Rocky
movies. Do you know guidelines for using an audio clip from film?
Thank you so much and Happy Holidays.
Anne
