We have a Recommended Pleasure Reading List that, while not exclusively for
middle schoolers, does have middle school books.
Also, were you thinking of including graphic novels and comics in your
collection, because I could knock up a list of MS must-have comics if you

First time actually replying on this listserve.
I would say good middle school or just below reads are Percy Jackson
series, maximum ride by James Patterson, the clique series, Frindle or any
of the middle school boos by Andrew clements, the Wayside School trilogy by
Louis sachar, angus thongs and full frontal snogging byluoise rennison
which is he first in a series, inkheart trilogy, well of witches by J A
White, a series of unfortunate events by Lemony Snicket, and here's a list
of best 2016 middle grade books by kirkus
Hope that helps/ was what you were looking for!

As you may have heard, we're starting a middle school on our campus next
year. Our library will begin to also serve grades 6-8; most 6th graders
will enter reading below grade level.
I'll be holding a book drive this spring to begin to build a collection
for the academy. I want to create a list of 200 (or more) must-have books;
members of the SI community will be able to sign up to purchase one or two
books on the list. I've been working on creating that list by reading a
variety of magazines and librarian resources, but I need your input because
you are my expert community.
I'm looking for books with the following characteristics:
Low lexile but with grade-appropriate interest
Diverse voices in writers and heroes
A balance of middle-school classics and new voices
So tell me. What must our library have as a starting point for the academy
collection? I'll happily share this list with everyone, if you like.
Thank you for your input!
