Hello there
We have a stand alone iPad self checkout for grades 3-12 at the French
American International School.

I just made an ad-hoc self-checkout system because students were
"borrowing" books without checking them out if someone wasn't at the front
desk when they were ready.
I purchased a cheap tablet, stand, and keyboard and attached a scanner we
had (approx. $150 total). I created a fancy instruction sheet that is taped
next to it (photo attached). Normally one of my library assistants is
around if someone needs help.
My students aren't required to carry their IDs, so they just look
themselves up by name. I created a login for follett that only allows this.
It's not the prettiest thing, but it has stopped books from walking away...

We use self check out using Alexandria on a dedicated computer for grades
K-8. The students love "beeping" the books. I switched to self check out 2
years ago and it's been a very positive change, I can now walk around and
help students find books while they check out on their own

We just started self-check out at Mark Day School with students in
grades 3-8. Let me know if you want more information.

We have self check-out sort of out of necessity, as someone is not at
the library desk at all times because both librarians serve multiple roles
and are often in classrooms, and there are multiple entrances and exits
into the library. However, I wish it were not the case, as library
materials go missing ALL the time. :(
We have both a computer system (Alexandria) with a dedicated computer
and still use a card system as a back up.

We do not use self check. I don’t want to miss an opportunity to
interact with our students.

Do any of you offer self check-out for your students? If so, do you
use a dedicated computer or another device? Does anyone happen to use an
iPad (requiring a photo of the library card and a photo of the book's
barcode)? How are any of these options working for you?
Thanks so much, and have a happy weekend!
