Thanks to all of you for your responses. You've made some great points.
I've decided not to repair the gate again. To be honest, I don't think
it's that much of a deterrence anyway. We haven't had many thefts, I'm
happy to say. The $500 service call (which I feel is ludicrous) is better
spent on other resources for the Library.
