You could try FactMonster.com.  Tab labelled People > Women of Influence.
There is some advertising. They are affiliated with Infoplease.

Dear Colleagues,

I have an extensive 4th Grade Research project on famous American Women,
and I would like them to use a safe children's search engine and not have
them use Google.

I am suggesting the following search engines below:

Sweet Search
Yahoo Kids
KidRex
Internet Public Library

What are your opinions of the above search engines for children?  Can you
suggest any other search engines?

The 4th graders are also using  our paid subscriptions to World Book
Online and e-library.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions regarding Lower School students
doing online internet research,

Debra
