Hi All,
I don't have list for this summer, but last year these were the selections:

Entering 6th Grade: *Ulysses* by Bernard Evslin
Entering 7th Grade: *Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window *by Tetsuko
Kuroyanagi
Entering 8th Grade: *A Tree Grows in Brooklyn *by Betty Smith
Entering 9th Grade: *1984* by George Orwell
Entering 10th Grade: *This Boy's Life *by Tobias Wolff
Entering 11th Grade: *The Odyssey *by Homer
Entering 12th Grade: depending on the elective--*Invisible Man *by Ralph
Ellison, *In Our Time *by Ernest Hemingway, *As You Like It *by William
Shakespeare, *Half the Sky* by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, or a
play TBA by the Modern Drama teacher.

Thanks for organizing this Brian, and thanks to everyone for sharing.

Mary

Hi Tim,

I sent your email to the English Teachers and the History Teachers. If
my Friday and Saturday weren’t so packed already I’d love to come to both
of these!

Brian

Hi Brian,

We received a grant from the NEA for *The Things They Carried.* I've
attached a flyer with all our programming surrounding the book in West
County, including a Word for Word reading this Friday night and a
travelogue at the Pinole Library this Saturday. Do you mind sharing it with
your English dept.?

Thanks,

Tim

*Subject:* [baisl] Request: High School Summer Reading Lists

Hi BAISLers,

Our English Department is meeting at the end of the week to go over
suggestions for summer reading and the Department Chair asked me to ask
about the summer reading lists from other high schools. If you don’t mind
sharing will you post or send me a list of your high school summer reading
lists even if they are last year’s?

This was the Saint Mary’s summer reading list for the ’14-’15 academic
year:

All students read:
Radiance of Tomorrow by Ishmael Beah

Frosh:
On That Day Everybody Ate by Margaret Trost
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

Soph:
When Plague Strikes: The Black Death, Smallpox, AIDS by James Cross Giblin

Junior:
The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

Seniors chose a book related to their Senior Project
And Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell
