It breaks my heart for students who have an outstanding book and can't
receive their yearbook. One year my son had his book taken by a student
and although he had placed it in the return bin, the book was taken by a
peer. He sat there in tears when the librarian would not allow him to have
his yearbook. When he finally got it, days later when this was all sorted
out, he threw it in the trash when he got home. He talked about the
unfairness of it for years. Is there no other way to make sure you get
books returned? There are so many reasons why books are not returned and
many times they are outside the ability of the student. Students without a
yearbook don't get signatures or comments with their
peers/teachers/administrators. It is a huge consequence for a relatively
small amount of money. I encourage you all to bill parents and allow
students the end-of-year thrill of having their yearbook regardless of
outstanding book(s).
