That's great news! Now you really have a teachable moment because it all
happened within the span of Banned Books Week. An excellent end to a
difficult week. We're cheering in our office for you!

Best news I've heard all day! I mentioned this situation at our all-school
meeting on Wednesday when I was talking about BBW. My students were
outraged, and at least one is now reading the book. I can't wait to let
them know the good news next week! Great job, Cathy.

Hi - I just want to pass the word that our 8th grade challenge to
Speak/Anderson has been overturned. Some parents complained about the book;
initial word from admin was that we needed to come up with a new title
because it had been pulled; yesterday I heard from the middle school
director that she is keeping it in the curriculum. So this week's dragon
has been slain and I can now take off my librarian-in-high-dudgeon hat.
Whew! Thank you to everyone who sent emails of support. Happy weekend!
