Hi Catherine,
I teach 6th grade and about 1/4 of my curriculum is devoted to DigCit. I
teach the following:
Online Responsibility
- responsibility to self (privacy/safety; digital footprint awareness)
- responsibility to friends/family (respecting privacy & trust of others)
- responsibility to the wider online community (ethics: plagiarism,
copyright infringement, self-publishing on the web)
Online Communication
- etiquette
- online identity (self-examination: how do we define ourselves & present
ourselves online)
- social media: positive (connectivity) & damaging (cyber-slighting,
cyber-teasing, cyber-bullying)
Online Health
- self-examination of how our individual use influences our mental &
physical health (positive & negative)
- internet addiction
- screen free challenge (screen free week)

Hello there
I hope everyone is having a good start of the year. I am curious to know
what role, if any, the librarian, plays in teaching a Digital Citizenship
curriculum. I am sure you are teaching Information/Media Literacy but
what about Privacy and Cyberbullying and Digital Footprints.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Catherine
