I am a huge fan of Learning Ally. It works well for our school

I can second Carla's feedback. Our Learning Specialists work with teachers to
identify students to create Learning Ally accounts since someone needs to be
designated as a "qualifier" on the site. They choose a category of need to
assign to the student but no proof of diagnosis is required. Our students and
families really like the service and it gets used.

Hi Cathy,
My experience may not be that helpful to you.
When I used Learning Ally many years ago, you needed to have a diagnosis or
IEP. When I talked to the company a few years back, I told them that I
worked at a school for children with learning differences for 5 years and
asked if I could authorize the students and they said yes. Besides students
with documented learning differences, I add anyone who the teacher believes
is having trouble with the printed text and could benefit from audio. I
also add our Chinese students because they have obvious language issues. I
think the bottom line is, can this particular student be served best by an
audio version. In other words, you can't add an entire class to learning
ally just because a teacher thinks it would be a nice idea.
I hope that sheds a little light on it,
Carla

A few weeks ago there was a discussion that included a few people
mentioning Learning Ally. For those of you who use it, a quick question:
do students have to be diagnosed with a reading issue to be able to use
this? I had assumed that if I got a subscription it would be available to
anyone who thought an audiobook would be helpful. Their website mentions
an eligibility requirement.
Thanks - Cathy
