For the 100-year anniversary of the United States entering WWI in April,
2017, the US National Archives launched Remembering WWI, an iPad and Android
application that invites audiences to explore, collaborate, and engage with
the Archives extensive collection of World War I moving and still
images. Using the archival content within the app, you can create your own
collections and build and share new narratives around the people, events,
and themes youre exploring.
H-SS Framework-aligned source sets could be created around these themes (and
many more):
Women's suffrage
Conscientious objectors and pacifist activity during WWI
Veterans rights (Bonus Army Riots)
Labor organizing and protests on the homefront
Civilian surveillance, internment, and property confiscation of those the
government deemed were "alien enemies"
Refugees of war in France, Belgium, and the Middle East
Native American and African American participation in WWI
Participants will:
Assemble source sets using the Historypin-designed app
Draft instructional supports based on UCBHSSP's H-SS Framework-aligned
learning strategies
