Hip Hop and Rap Music Books
*Hip Hop Family Tree* by Ed Piskor (a graphic novel series, but is
nonfiction at its root.)
*One Nation Under a Groove: Rap Music and Its Roots* by James Haskins
*Can’t Stop Won’t Stop* by Jeff Chang (It covers the development of
hip-hop from the 70s up until 2000. It‘s written in a journalistic style
and is heavy on the cultural and historical context of the various time
periods.)
*The Anthology of Rap* edited by Adam Bradley
*Where You're At* by Patrick Neate

Last year I bought *Contact High: A Visual History of Hip-Hop* by Vikki
Tobak and Questlove. It's more of a photography book but includes a lot of
iconic and infamous photographs from rap and hip hop history.
