At Sacramento Country Day School our magazines don't see a lot of use. I
just surveyed the kids about a bunch of things including their reading
habits and magazines in particular because we're going to vote some of them
off the island again (we've been paring down the collection for years now
although each year I'll throw in a wild card to see if they pick it up).
All the results from the survey aren't in yet, but so far it looks like
National Geographic, Popular Science, and The Economist get some pick up
and so does last year's wildcard pick, Bon Appetit. I also have some that
are ordered for specific teachers who use them with the kids. For most
titles, we don't keep back issues, we pass them along to the teachers who
order them for use with their classes or to people who are interested in
them. I'm thinking of putting them out on the tables to see if they pick
them up that way.

At Bellarmine (all boys high school) we have steadily reduced our
subscriptions because the boys NEVER touch these magazines. When I started
here 10 years ago *Popular Science* was still read by a few (like 6
touches per month in a student body of 1600). But even that one was going
untouched so we dropped it. We’ve tried *Wired, ESPN, Sports Illustrated*,
and there is just no readership.
In your libraries where the magazines are used are they being read by
girls primarily? Or are these Bellarmine boys just so into their phones
and laptops that print magazines are completely 20th century.
Any thoughts on this topic are appreciated.

Does anyone use a print magazine subscription service other than EBSCO,
that they would recommend? We're currently very unhappy with EBSCO, which
is refusing to issue us credit for issues never received over the summer.
