Hi Jo,
Jeff Chang's *Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation *gets
the most use in our collection and Shea Serrano's *Rap Yearbook* doesn't
feel academic (not a bad thing!) but is a lively, informative read. Hanif
Abdurraqib's *Go Ahead in the Rain: Notes on a Tribe Called Quest* is
awesome and memoir mixed with hip hop history.
Wesley Morris produces great work on the topic, and if your student has
time they could try reaching out to an expert:)
