2nd-3rd is a potentially huge reading level range, from early readers (*Katie
Woo *and *Pedro*) to middle grade chapter books (*The Lightning Thief*).
Maybe something mid-higher with an audiobook option (*Frankie Sparks*? *Planet
Omar*?), or lower with multiple layers of nuance to dive into (*Princess
Cora and the Crocodile*? *Diva and Flea*?)

Series are good for parents who want to be able to keep the child reading
if they love it. :D

My Father's Dragon is a great pick! Two others that have worked well for
me with that age group:

more experienced readers)

One activity that my book club students love is to either re-tell the
story as a graphic novel or create their own fan fiction extension. For the
graphic novel activity, I use comic strip templates I found online. I can
