Do any of your schools (libraries) run a birthday book program? We have done
one for years at Live Oak, and for a number of reasons (including time
commitment) we are exploring new ways to organize it. Our program involves
these steps:
The Development Office sends a letter to parents, grandparents and special
friends explaining the program.
Students whose families/friends choose to participate are invited to come to
the library to select a new book.
We run birthday books once a month and it usually involves 20-30 students
coming to the library over a 45 minute period.
We keep a supply of new books on a Birthday Book cart. A book plate with the
child's name is placed inside the book(s) that is selected.
Students write a thank you note to their parent, etc. and I add a note.
Thanks for letting me know about your program and any pros/cons. I’m happy to
share responses with anyone who is interested.
