Hello BAISL,
As you know, a team of 7 BAISL members* met on April 12 to revise the bylaws.
The work was challenging and rewarding, as we revised the bylaws to meet
the needs of our members since we have not had a major revision in the 39
years of our history. We are excited to present these bylaws to you today
in advance of our May 10th meeting, where we will discuss and vote on these
bylaws. It is imperative that we have quorum, 25% of our membership, at the
meeting to vote on the proposed bylaws. This is 3 years in the making; please
try your best to come to the meeting.
Attached are the proposed bylaws. There is also a copy on baisl.org under
the bylaws forum.
This revision is a proposed replacement of the current bylaws. While some
things are relatively minor changes meant to streamline the bylaws and make
them more clear and useful to membership (i.e., the articles for Officers
and Election of Officers are consolidated under an article for Executive
Board), there are some bigger changes, hence the revision rather than
several amendments.
Our goal with this revision is to make our bylaws more nimble, succinct,
and clear. Issues around spending and membership have been addressed, as
has a change in the title and role of Membership Director. Voting has also
been addressed to allow for the possibility of asynchronous and/or
electronic voting.
If this revision does not pass in May, we will stick with our current
bylaws as-is.
Also, as with any bylaws, these proposed bylaws can (and likely will) be
amended in the future. We hope that this proposed revision is a good
starting point for BAISL moving forward.
