Hi Judy, I do a great activity that includes much of the information you'd
like to introduce.
Make up a batch of cards -- 1/2 questions about the library, the other
half the answer to those questions. Pass all the cards out have the
students sit in a circle.
Then You ask, who's got a question? ( for example, this one says what are
the hours of the library) then someone raises hand who thinks they have the
answer. Then they ask, who's got a question?
Go Round until you're done. You can throw in a little trivia for fun. (
like how many sharks...) I also have students introduce themselves before
they read the question or answer.
Also, for the little ones, I always started with a little hand/finger
rhyme then ends up with hands in the lap, so the students are ready to
listen.
If you give them time to browse, use a classical or jazz piece to wrangle
them back to the sitting area, play it each time they browse when time is
up. Very effective and pleasant.

classes from day one by implementing and rehearsing procedures Harry Wong
talks about in his book. I would appreciate any feedback!
