Driver stops for ducks, causes rollover crash on I-95, FHP saysA Brinks armored truck rolled over trying to avoid hitting the stopped car.Ducks ? or, more specifically, a driver who stopped to help some ducks ? caused a rollover crash on Interstate 95 in Volusia County on Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.Troopers said the crash happened just after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, near the State Road 421 exit in the Port Orange area.An unidentified driver had stopped in the roadway after spotting a mother duck and her ducklings trying to cross the road ? unbeknownst to a Brinks armored truck driver who was approaching from behind.Troopers said the Brinks driver saw the car and swerved to avoid it, and the truck rolled over and barreled off the road. The driver who had stopped drove away before emergency crews arrived, troopers said. Those in the Brinks truck suffered only minor injuries, and were not hospitalized. Due to the design of the truck, they needed assistance from emergency workers to escape, troopers said. The mother duck was killed in the mayhem, but her ducklings survived. Volusia County Animal Control was called to the scene. The Brinks driver told troopers he thought the driver of the car was female, but investigators had no firm description or leads Wednesday evening. However, FHP Sgt. Kim Montes said it was clear that the driver who stopped on the busy highway was in the wrong, and could easily have caused more harm than a duck fatality."We understand that [the driver] wanted to save the ducklings," Montes said, but he or she "could have killed somebody." Lesson to be learned, don't stop for animals on the roadway. The Badges Law Enforcement Discussion Group - Est. 1997
