From Steven Taylor.

Hi folks.

Apple is not paying me for marketing this is only to keep you informed and up
to date.

If you are thinking about another device apple has of course recently released
the ipad.

The good news folks is the ipad officially hits our shores May 28, 2010.

The ipad is like the iphone but will have a program called ibooks for book
reading and what apple is saying some subscription services.

If any of you are on vip-l let me correct a few facts for you.

1. Although there is much talk about certain newspapers no longer being
available in print, don't think for a moment they are only available to apple
users or ipad users. Folks they would be silly to do this they would lose huge
audiences and the company would be running the newspaper at a major loss, so
please folks, do not panic. Apple is doing what it should, huge pr spin and
once the spin dies, you won't see a paperless newspaper only available to ipad

2. One thing I have not seen any blind person say yet or at least not reliably
is how "accessible" is the ipad. Firstly, ipad is completely accessible once
you turn voice over on. Secondly, voice over will work with all the apps which
come with all versions of ipad. Thirdly, ipad will have unlike the Mac and
iphone a voice over shortcut user guide installed, surprised blind people have
not mentioned this. Fourthly, ipad will sink to any apple and or windows
device. Fifthly, if you want to run an iphone app on your ipad which isn't
there yet, you have to pay another licence to authorise the ipad.

3. I am extremely disappointed that few blind people have told other blind
people what advantages 3 g wireless has over the standard ipad model. The
advantages are. 3 g with wireless is faster than standard wireless. 3 g
although costing more than standard has the ability for future expansion of
data speed.

4. Learning the touch gestures is going to be a sinch even for totally blind
users and I do not say this lightly or as an existing iphone user. Remember
the ipad is bigger than the iphone in size so spreading out a keyboard is
easier and so on.

5. Don't rush out and buy the first standard or 3 g model yet, ibooks is not
yet available for ipad so wait until apple releases ibooks due in August apple
tells us so at least hang off until October before you consider it.

6. Ipad comes in 6 models. Standard 16 32 and 64 gig wireless standard only
and 3 g wireless 16 32 and 64 gig models. My 2 cents. The 3 g 64 gig model is
excellent value priced at $1048 Australian dollars.
