Hi please read below regarding sight testing and not using blindfolds. Could you please let me know what you think?

Hi. Just to let you know that there will be a meeting of VI international classifiers very soon to work on the new classification rules. Everyone in VI sports realises that our current classification system is probably not the best one and definitely not sport specific enough. The same classification should not apply to ALL sports as a B2 or B3 classified through visual fields loss and with 6/6 VA is at a definite advantage when it comes to sports where good eyesight is required e.g triple jump and swimming where the athlete can see the jumping board or the end of the pool when he is about to turn and has the advantage. So all those issued will be addressed and I feel confident that the new system will be a much better one. Some changes which will most probably be brought are blindfolds will not be used anymore in ANY sport, visual fields will not be a qualifying factor anymore in some sports and most probably, there will be a B4 and B5 category. The Executive Committee of IBTA has already addressed this matter in the last Skype meeting and I am currently working on a new classification system for Blind Tennis. I shall let you know more in due course.

I don't think so - I certainly haven't heard anything about that. However,
I presume they'll allow at least a similar number to those in the biggest
other category (e.g. B3, that is B3 men + B3 women).

I hope they'd be reluctant to turn anyone away whose played in at least one
of the regionals, if they can avoid it.

Clear case of multitasking going wrong. Have they given any indication of number of places?

Hi Lara,

Easily done.  Yeah, your name is on the online entries list now.

Glad you'll be there.

Hi all,

I just checked the list of entries for the nationals, on the LTA website,
and there are already 16 B1s! Admittedly, 3 of those haven't played in the
regionals, so will need a wildcard in order to enter. It's fantastic to
see the sport continuing to grow like this, though - we had 14 in the
nationals last year, and 11 the year before.

If you want to check the list yourself, just go to the same URL you'd use
to enter, which is
http://www3.lta.org.uk/Competitions/Competition/?ctn=1-8HMI3T4

A few of the usual suspects are missing from the list as yet. The ones
that spring to my mind are Helen, Lara, Nadeem, Roy and Yvette.

If you're intending to enter, but haven't yet, I'd encourage you to do so
ASAP, as it's first come, first served - and I'd imagine they're nearly
maxed out. (If you have trouble with the website, just give Kirsty a call,
as she's happy to help over the phone.)

Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing lots of you in October!

Cheers,

N.
