Hi, S&T web site has an article about the opposing crescents on Sunday AM 5/4 and Monday PM 5/5. The evening crescent on Monday will be the harder observation. At 8:33PM Monday the Sun will be 4 1/2 degrees below the horizon and the Moon will be 4 degrees above the horizon. The Sun-Moon separation will be 8 degrees 50 minutes. At that time the Moon will be 15 hours 15 minutes old. At 6:09 AM Sunday the Sun will be 6 degrees below the horizon and the Moon will be 5 degrees above the horizon. The separation will be 14 degrees, and the Moon will be 23 hours 9 minutes before new. The article gives some advice on using the position of the Sun on Saturday morning and the position of Mercury on Sunday evening to note the position of the Moon on Sunday morning and Monday evening respectively. Maybe a handful of AZ observers can add to the "Only a tiny handful of skilled observers have ever managed to see such "opposing crescents" before." mentioned in the S&T article.
