I was outside and pointed it out to the Mrs. (while out for a "healthy" walk in the heavily polluted air) It appeared to be normal with reference to being caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere but, did note it appeared to have a "dulled" appearance with a brownish-red tinge to the edge which I attributed to the nasty particulate matter in the air. I probably was further influenced in this decision because having seen similar "dulling" and coloration in the sunset just a few hours before.. (so I vote for an ice crystal halo viewed through an air pollution "filter") Jimmy Ray -----Original Message----- From: az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:az-observing-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Jeff Hopkins Sent: Friday, December 16, 2005 12:28 PM To: az-observing@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [AZ-Observing] Re: magnificent Moonbow, Thursday midnight While I have no doubt any halos were created by ice particles, the pollution could be responsible for other phenomena. I regret (not really) I was not outside in the pollution last night to see it first hand.
