Hey--just forwarding this Perseid reminder from our comrades at the Huachuaca Astronomy Club. Jenn. -----Original Message----- From: Doug Snyder [mailto:starhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, August 12, 2003 10:45 AM To: haclist@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [haclist] Perseid Meteor Shower Tonight In spite of a very luminous Moon and probable cloud cover, the Perseids will peak this evening and tomorrow morning. Since the predicted rate this year is about 100/hr and historically, these meteors are fast, bright and frequently leave persistent trains, there is a possibility that several will be visible to the optically unaided eye. Pick a direction facing away from the Moon. During early morning hours before dawn (and when the sky is usually clear) and when the Moon is getting lower in the west might be a good time. Who knows? If anyone is successful in seeing some of these Perseids, please post a short notice here on the list.
