hm ph: 520-586-2244Well, the clouds weren't very helpful, but I was able to get
in a good observation of SN 2011fe in M101 and a marginal observation of SN
2011dh in M51. In the SN Search Charts by Thompson and Bryan there is a magn 10
(unlabeled, but approx) star right on the very western edge of the chart for
M101 (=N5457). I could just fit the SN and the star in the same field of view
and when I defocused them to compare their disks it seemed that the star was a
bit brighter than the SN so I estimate the SN to be about magn 10.5. The clouds
were a little more problematic for M51, but I was just able to detect the SN
and it was fainter than my previous observation, somewhere around 14.6. The
moon, the clouds and the skyglow from Tucson were all a hindrance tonight.
Clear skies,
Wayne (aka Mr. Galaxy)
